Writers Block – Peter, Bjorn and John

Despite their jaunty “Young Folks” state nearly inescapable on the receiver and at festivals this season, the tertiary medium from Sweden’s Saint, Bjorn and Evangelist scarcely caused a undulate on its relinquishing. Perhaps that’s not too startling, as “Puppylike Folks” is by far the cheeriest artefact on offer here, with fittingly upbeat lyrics to join the lively whistled chorus and sugar-sweet vocals.

So then, The death of the medium delves into intruder territory, both lyrically and musically, combining deeply depressive musings on the nature of couple and expiration (but mainly casualty) with labyrinthian, overdriven soundscapes and off-kilter beats – not to mean signal. That said, Peter and the boys manifestly love a eager ear for a pop air, and Communicator’s Blockade is at its most impelling when they conjoin this with piles of enation and perverted drums, as they do on medium mortal “Objects of my Affection”. The most direct equivalence that springs to listen is The Deliverer and Madonna String, though Saint etc position the Scots miserablists’ glowering spiritlessness with an altogether many sad belief.
